Because you have to start somewhere...
Mar. 19th, 2004 12:59 pmSo here I am posting on Live Journal.
Why?
Because it seemed like a good idea at the time would be the flippant answer.
The real answer is that I've been encouraged to do so, and have found myself intrigued by the idea. Also, I lack a web presence of any sort, and feel I need to step out into the deep end of the pool. Finally, writing is a damn lonely business when you get right down to it. I spend my days with the cat as my only company while I attempt to create something that resembles a coherent story. This is a way to be social, without actually going outside.
Why name the Journal "Move Along Home"?
Reason number one: Because I've spent most of my life trying to do just that. I've never been terribly sure what my place is in the world, so I find myself constantly looking for that elusive place to be.
Reason number two: It's a great phrase from a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode that I adore, and it has stuck with me over years.
Reason number three: It is the working title of a short story that I am currently trying to pull together. Oddly, the title may not fit the story anymore, but may work with another concept I have in mind.
What do I plan to do with my Live Journal?
I plan to primarily use the journal to explore my writing process. I'll talk about what I'm doing and muse on various projects. I'll discuss the daily ordinariness of being a writer. I will also point out anything I find on the web that might be of interest to other writers. I promise not to spend a lot of time waxing mystical about the process, just discussing nuts and bolts.
As a secondary purpose, I will use the journal as kind of editorial platform, should I feel the need to stand and pontificate about some subject that has fired my passions.
Finally, I will use my journal as a place to keep informed the people who care (all what, six of you?) about the progress of my blindness and the various ways it affects my life and those around me. Oh yeah, sometimes I will simply talk about life in general.
I will probably bore you to tears.
I also promise to try and avoid certain topics, like what color my phlegm is when I'm sick, or the interesting thing I found lurking under the refrigerator.
Okay, this seems like a good place to stop for now.
In Deep Peace
