Vision Update
Sep. 24th, 2004 02:22 pmI've returned from the Retina Center, where I was indeed poked in the eye repeatedly. The little thingamabobber that checks eye pressure wasn't working right, and the tech kept poking me with it. I mean sure, I couldn't feel it because of the numbing drops, but still.
Pokepokepokepokepoke,
"Odd, this piece of VERY expensive medical equipment doesn't seem to be working."
Pokepokepokepokepoke.
Then a number of VERY bright lights were shone in my dilated eyes. No photographywas done, luckily enough.
The Retinas appears to be stable at this point, which is good. My vision seems to have stabilized for now, which is also good. With the glasses on I can see 20/25 in the left eye (the one that's had cataract surgery) and 20/50 in the right. Without the glasses it gets much worse of course. And as always, I have virtually no peripheral vision (10 degrees) and I remain night-blind as well as barely able to function in bright light or glare. Days like today, were it is overcast and cloudy, are perfect for me.
The suck part was after the numbing drop wore off.
careswen had been gone for about an hour when they finally did, and well, I don't know happen during all the poking of the eye, but my left eye felt like someone was running sandpaper over it. It hurt closed, it hurt open, and it HURT! And teared. I stretched out on the bed with it closed, keeping tissue handy to wipe the tearing, and for awhile I thought I might have to call
careswen to take me to the doctor. Then about one o'clock it stopped hurting. The dilation meds have mostly worn off, I'm still a little sensitive. (I'm wearing my Roy Orbison shades as I write this), and I hope in an hour or two things will get back to normal.
