A Handful of Things
Jan. 19th, 2005 05:44 pmAfter all the work on The Novel Without a Name last week, this week has seen a switching of the gears. I have fifteen stories, ranging in size from 16,000 to 1700 words (most come in between 7200 and 5800) that have been clamoring for my attention. So yesterday I drew up a battle plan of what markets to send them to, picking as many as seven potential markets for some stories. Today I re-read every single one of them. Tomorrow I plan to start lobbing them out the door.
I signed back up for the Online Writing Workshop (OWW) under the user name mmerriam. I was previously a member of OWW through the writing group Variegated Yarns, but that group is no more. I plan to post something to OWW tomorrow.
I had a moment of "When did I become my Grandmother?" today. I found myself talking about dying clothes, I muttered about getting some ironing done while I sorted laundry, and finally I thought to myself that I needed to bring up the stuff in need of mending from the basement. What? I suppose I should go bake some cookies and complete the transition. Maybe after I do the kitchen floor.
I made a foray into Southdale yesterday that, while not a disaster, was also not a success. I suppose I still need to figure out what my limits are, especially when dealing with wind chill. The store did not have what I wanted, forcing me to trudge around the streets in the bitter wind. Southdale as an area is not particularly pedestrian friendly (This is Edina darling, where's your gas-guzzling German made SUV?), forcing me to backtrack more than once. Add to the fact that I stood in the freezing cold for nearly twenty-five minutes waiting for a bus, and I needed rescue by
careswen. It was a bit disheartening.
Speaking of
careswen (and speaking to
careswen), this is what I wrote last night in bed when I suddenly dropped out of the conversation and started scribbling.
For my wife, who loves the little furry guys.
Squirrelku
Fierce voice through the trees
Goes chitter-bark chitter-bark
A flash of red tail
And finally, because I can play sappy meme sheep with the best of them, and because I feel like I don't tell the people in my life how much I appreciate them as often as I should (and I do appreciate you), gacked from
mrissa:
1. Reply to this post if you want me to tell you how cool you are!
2. Watch my journal over the next few days for a post about you and why I think you rock.
3. If you like, post these instructions in your journal and give your friends a much needed dose of love and adoration!
Well, the cat's sneezing, the laundry needs checking, and I need to decide on dinner.
See you tomorrow,
Michael
