Blink Blink

Nearly 2500 today. I should hit the halfway point of the novel this weekend. Tomorrow maybe even, if things fall just right.

I should be happy that my speed is increasing, and I am, but a little part of me is worried that the reason I'm getting faster is that I'm writing crap.

Mae had to fight her way off the light rail train, battling corrupted, bipedal Cŵn Annwn and an undead police sergeant. They underestimated her because she looks small and helpless. They will not make that mistake again.

Mae's in downtown, she's wounded, it's snowing hard, and the hounds are after her. She left her phone in her other pair of pants, she's out of pepper spray, and she just broke most of the contents of her bag.

Jill doesn't even know Mae is in danger.

Don't worry about speed and whatnot... afterall, you still have the revision draft in your future! (Get your deconstruction gear oiled and tuned.)

My style is to bull through the first draft at full speed, stopping just long enough to make notes about things to fix during the revision (continuity, fact checks, changing a place in the scene, changing someone's name, go back and add X).

I think having finished one novel (even if it is unsellable) and having a handful of nice semi-pro short story sales has helped my confidence in writing this novel.
