It's Not So Much Like Kissing Your Sister, As It Is Like Kissing Your Really Attractive Cousin

So.

I have this story I wrote a couple of years ago. It's that weird size that no one really wants (18,000 words), and I never felt the story worked. I could never decide what it was. It wasn't urban fantasy, or magical realism. Maybe it was soft science fiction. The writing itself was pretty good and the dialogue is rather snappy, but the story just didn't click. I put it in the trunk.

Two weeks ago I pulled it out. I dusted it off and sent it out to a market that doesn't pay (yeah, yeah, I know, I'm giving stuff away), but has a reputation for offering good editorial feedback. I knew no one would ever pay me for this story, and I wanted the editorial feedback; I want to see if anything in this story worked right. I needed to know if there was anything I could cannibalize from it. Plus, I have this weird need to find publishing homes for all my stories, even the ones I have no confidence in, and this was the last story of mine I thought I would ever place anywhere.

The editor wants it, but not for her SF&F E-zine. She wants it for her other E-zine.

Her Romance E-zine.

Good lord, I wrote a romance. A Science Fiction Romance. And after further consideration, it is not the only one I've written (Rainfall, which I just sent to F&SF, is another, for you OWWers who might remember it). *Facepalm* Laugh, go ahead, you know you want to.

Angel Above goes to Lyrica.

I'll post a link when it goes live.

Hugs and Kiss
Michael

Congrats! That's great news!

And there ain't nuthin' wrong with romance. (At least, that a good dose of antibiotics won't fix, most cases.)
