Sunday Night Poetry: Suburbia

On the symmetric streets
the lawns lie manicured,
as a wealthy woman's nails,
fronting cookie cutter houses
all in a row.

The desperate plastic-ware parties
and the make-up side shows
march on and on.
The forty-hour a week lives
pay for mini-vans
and generic four-doors

Kids play on the block,
look alike shoes and faces.
The teens gather,
like so many cattle,
at the shopping mall

After dark, the lights
go off with the late show,
Dogs walked, cats put out,
the dishes washed and dried.
The weekly meatloaf disposed.
