1647 words today. To say I'm pleased would be an understatement.

And they are good words: the kind of words that move a story forward; the kind of words that show the growth and direction of a character. Up until now Richard has been interested in Holly's well-being because of something he wanted from her. Now he cares about her welfare and safety because of something he wants for her. The difference in those two things--and the plot implications that change in attitude means--is huge.

If Richard has been a nasty piece of work in the first part of the novel because he wanted something for himself and damn anyone who got in his way, he is about to become that much more dangerous because he has something he believes in and wants to see to fruition, even if it means his death.

I've enjoyed writing this novel up to this point, but now I've finally found the theme of this particular novel and I am that much more excited about writing the second half of this book.

That's great to hear! (I love when I underestimate the amount of work I've done and later find out I've done more than that)

And it sounds like you really did a ton of great work today (that doesn't show up in the word count but is even more important).

Seems that way, doesn't it?

Not that I necessarily think it's a NEGATIVE thing... but why are there so many "Richards" in fantasy? Ok, I am specifically thinking of two characters, one by Gaiman and one by Goodkind.

Still, it's always seemed like such an odd choice to me.

I think because Richard is a good, solid name. It's not fancy or distracting, but it has a certain weight and resonance to it.

Congratulations! To put words on the screen for paper production later is work, but to have it become exciting work.
Definitely Smiles For you!

I haven't felt this good about a project since I finished the last novel. I'm starting to suspect that I'm about to make the jump from being primarily a short fiction writer to being primarily a novel writer. Not a bad problem to have, in truth.

Yes, we are. I'd keep doing this even if no was paying me. Not that they're paying me much!
