Thank you! I was particularly interested in the Daily Planet story, if discouraged by the judge's saying that he probably couldn't get to the application for a temporary restraining order because he had so many probable-cause cases to look at.

It may have unintended consequences, though. I hadn't intended to participate in the protests at the capitol, but hearing about all these abuses convinced me that I had to take some action if I want things to change. So I went down to the capitol today and stood with the protestors until the intense sunshine and heat got too much for me.

Every story I read makes me more uncomfortable: angry, sad, fearful. From the time I was a child, I've been aware of some of the hypocrisy in our country regarding the constitution and the ways in which we treat people and ideas that don't fit the norm, but it seems that every day since Bush was "elected" I've been confronted by yet one more example of governmental abuse that I never thought could happen here. I'm appalled that our mainstream media is silent about what's happening regarding protests at both conventions, but especially surrounding the RNC. And I wanted to find a better word than protests in that last sentence, since many of the individuals harassed in Minneapolis were not protesters, nor were they protesting. By lumping gardeners, physicians, newscasters, and lawyers (not to mention small children) into the mix of people who now stand accused of various forms of violent protest, our government has shown us that none of us is safe. We don't need to do anything wrong, we merely need to stand witness to the government's wrongdoing, in order to be condemned.

I can't believe this is going on.

I'm especially confused by the bit in the Salon article where they say there were government plants who were sent to "inflitrate 'vegan groups'". Because, you know, vegans have such a reputation for being armed and dangerous *eyeroll*.
