What:
Speculations Reading with Michael Merriam

When:
Friday, October 24, 2008 6:30 PM

Where:
DreamHaven Books (new location!)
2301 E 38th St
Minneapolis MN 55406
612-823-6161

While I am not sure what I am reading yet, I plan to read one story in support of my short story collection, Shimmers & Shadows, and then I will read something new.

The new piece will either be an excerpt from the novella "The Horror at Cold Springs," or "All the Leaves Your Bed," which will be appearing in Shiny, or "At the Edge of Twilight, Melissa Remembers Flight," which will be appearing in The Morrigan .

I will probably also read "The Problem Was," a short poem that appeared in Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine #36.

I will have copies of Shimmers & Shadows for sale. We will be giving away prizes, and there will be homemade baked goods for the audience.

As always, the group will convene after the reading at a local eatery for food and great conversation. Please note that DreamHaven Books is no longer located on Lake Street in the Uptown/LynLake area.

Ooooh! If you read "At the Edge of Twilight, Melissa Remembers Flight" I would love to hear some of the feedback! That would be super cool.

There will be a full report later, but I can tell you that "At the Edge of Twilight, Melissa Remembers Flight" was very well received at the reading last night.

There's actually a good change that I will. I might, depending on who shows up for the reading (as in, if it's all the same folks who showed up at my readings at conventions this year, or who are members of MSFW along with me), read all new stories instead of reading from the short story collection.

Looking forward to reading how it goes.

Sadly, I didn't have enough time to read the story coming up in Shiny. But, I've been invited to take part in a series YA readings at some of the locals SF/F/H conventions next year (we have six well-attended local cons in the Twin Cities), so I'll be reading that story and promoting Shiny at those readings.

I had a really good turn-out (about 30 people) and I sold a couple of books. People seemed to enjoy themselves, and they ate nearly all the baked goods we brought!

Hey, I haven't been to the new store site yet. This strikes me as a perfect excuse. :-D
