Continuing The Run-Up To Con

More prep for World Fantasy Con. Food arrived today from Simons. We always squirrel away food in the room. It saves money, and since we will be in Madison for almost five days, we need to find ways to hoard every dime. I plan on baking a dozen muffins tonight, and a dozen cookies, to take with. I've gathered up a bunch of stuff to lug along. In fact, everything is, if not packed, at least staged, except for clothes and last minute stuff.

I also set out the buffet for Reverend Selena. At first she was deeply happy, but now she is deeply suspicious. Occasionally she wanders into the den and looks at the suitcases in a considering way.

I understand that the Concourse Hotel has free wireless Internet. With any luck I will be able to post Con reports at night before bedtime.

I have to admit that the closer I get to leaving for WFC, the more anxious I become. The nasty little voice in my head is working overtime, telling me that I shouldn't go, that I don't belong, that there will be REAL writers there. Why does a nobody with a handful of semi-pro sales like me even think he deserves to go to something like this?

Yeah, yeah, I know. I know that the stupid little voice is wrong, but one of the big drawbacks about being in this business is that you spend a lot of time listening to the voices in your head, and sometimes they get unpleasant. Stupid brain.

No writing news to report. "Fetch" is simmering away, waiting for a rewrite. The Hag of Kilmarra story is stalled again. I have two more stories waiting to be written, one about the world ending every first Wednesday of the month, and a Native American monster tale. I am also starting to think about another Rija story, since the editors at Gryphonwood asked if I was going to do another one or two. I have fourteen little homeless stories out looking for an editor to love (or at least buy) them.

Well, I still have laundry and other housework to finish before WFC. And candy to hand out to little monsters. See everyone in Madison on Thursday!

In Peace
Michael

Of COURSE you belong, and of COURSE you're a "real" writer! :-P That's just your inner critic, which makes you an even BETTER writer when you work to overcome it. Have fun at the con :)

If it's any consolation, I have that voice too. I'm going anyway.

We need all the practice we can get ignoring that stupid voice.

Hey there!

My name is Elizabeth; I found your website and LJ through the list of WFC attendees. I've been Googling on everyone to learn a little more about who will be there. It's dorky, but I'm doing it 'cause I'm very new to the field myself and I want to meet the peeps!

Anyways, you have EVERY right to be there. It's gonna be a blast. I have those voices too, aplenty, so I know where you're coming from. The important thing is to just keep with the moving forward in SPITE of them. They never really go away, but they don't have to control us.

Your web page is great, and I'm looking forward to meeting you. I'll be there with my partner Leland, I'm sure we'll run into you and I'll introduce myself.

See you there!

Thanks for the kind words! I'll look forward to meeting you both at WFC. Just FYI, I added you to my friends list. I'm going to go look at your website tonight!
