Zero words written today, but I don't feel like that's a bad thing. I've been pretty much blazing away for the last couple of days, and I want to start writing on a crucial scene, so I need some time to consider what I'm doing. I expect to be back at it tomorrow.
I made a foray out today, sending some packages off to my sister, and stopping at the store to pick up a handful of items before trudging home.
Goodies received today: My certificate from Writers of the Future arrived today. Hammered arrived today. A Neil Gaimen audio book arrived today. My audio copy of Asimov's arrived today.
careswen's World of Warcraft Strategy Guide arrived today. My head may explode from geeky goodness!
Surreal Moment #1: During my walk home I go down the long driveway of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and School, which is right behind my house. On these walks I will sometimes come across various items on the side of the driveway that the kids have dropped for one reason or another (I look at my feet a lot as I walk during the winter. I can't detect ice well with the cane, so I have to use what visual clues I can get). If I'm feeling charitable, and I have a free hand, I'll grab it and drop it off just inside the Church's side door, where there is a small table with bulletins and such. It is usually things like scarves, an odd glove or mitten, or ear muffs. Once it was a copy of the Sims. Today as I walked down the long drive toward the Church and school, as the statue of The Blessed Virgin watched me come ever closer, I looked down and saw a bra. A red, lacey, frilly bra. I left it lying there, all the while wondering why you would even want to get to that state of undress in the church driveway in this kind of winter cold.
I posted a third story to OWW, so I have my maximum number of pieces posted to the workshop. I have some crits to do tonight, which I will hopefully post tomorrow morning sometime.
I'm halfway through deLint's Spirit in the Wires and all I can say is, eh. It's not bad (though there was a dreaded "Character looks at herself in the mirror" scene). But it's not particularly good either. It's a lot like eating comfort food, when what I wanted was a four course meal. I've found some glaring typos in the text. There was one particular instance of what should have been "a head" becoming "ahead" which tossed me out of the story completely. I don’t know, I wonder if Charles needs to try something different.
Surreal Moment #2: While playing with the cat (she loves feather wands), I was listening to oldies on the cable radio. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons were wailing some tune. I was thinking about distinct voices, and I thought of Elmer Fudd. Then suddenly I was singing the song in my best Fudd voice. The cat stopped and stared.
Well, that enough information for now.
In Peace
Michael
