FRAK!

The guy from the heat and air repair place came out at 10:00pm, took one look and told me he can't fix it because he wouldn't even know where to start.

He said I'll need to call a commercial company, because I have a totally enclosed Heat and AC unit, typically found ON THE ROOFTOP OF BUSINESS, not in homes.

I'm going to leave all the lights on downstairs (they generate a little heat) set the faucet on a slow drip and we'll try to get through tonight. In the morning I'll call the HOA and find out who I should call.

What's gonna be tonight? -20 or so? Frak.

this sounds like a disaster, frankly

Um.... you need some space heaters. Ours doesn't work or I'd bring it over. Doesn't anyone have one or more you can use?

OK, we're testing our space heater, and it seems to work OK after all. It will probably keep a room reasonably warm over night. If you want it, call me and I'll bring it over. 612-823-1497.

Do you have any plumbing on outside walls?

The only plumbing on outside walls I have is to my outside fawcett, which I drained and turned off weeks ago.

It's 60 degrees in the house this morning. [livejournal.com profile] careswen is going to hate taking a shower, but there yu go. I'm going to call around first thing this morning for servive. If something goes stupid with getting it repaired, I'll likely fire a signal flare and broadcast an SOS to the world.

Thank you for offering to bring out a space heater to us in the middle of a freezing cold night, btw.

I really appreciate it!

Geeze, I'm so sorry this is happening.

Can you turn the oven on and prop the door part way open, or all the way open for that matter. It would at least give you one semi-warm room to hang out in until they get your heat back on. Boiling big pots of water on the top of the stove would help generate some heat too.

Good luck, Michael. I'll be thinking of you guys while I'm at work.

Thanks! Now that we've made it through the night, we should be okay.

WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL US?

1) Huddling under the covers seemed to work pretty well.
2) It would have been a greater inconvenience to both households -- especially considering your own adventures!
3) We couldn't have left Reverend Selena behind or inflicted her on you.

But we did consider it, all the same.

Oh. Well. Okay then. As long as you considered it.

Space heaters are your friend. If there's going to be any more delaying of repair work, get several.

Your house must be well insulated if it only fell to 60 -- my house fell to 58 overnight once during some furnace problems last winter, and it was a MUCH warmer night.

I was surprised at how warn it was this morning. I've managed to stabilize the temp in the house at 66 by baking brownies and using the halogen torch lamp. With the sun up and shining in, it's not to bad. It help that we live in a townhouse and so share wall space in two sides.
