[livejournal.com profile] wordswoman posted a series of her opening lines in her live journal, and wanted other writers to do the same. The difference this time is that it does not have to be from a new work-in-progress, it can be from anything you've written. I told her I would, so I did. Without further ado, some of my opening lines.

• Charles downloaded the ghost by accident.

• The high, insistent wailing brought Rija back to her senses.

• "Sir, Theodore's in this mess because he's an idiot."

• When the spider spoke, Cassie McGowen knew she had lost what little of her mind was left.

• Tomorrow, I will walk into the flames.

• Rija stood ankle deep in cold sewage.

• The rain missed her.

That first one was a real gotcha for my particular reading tastes!

It is a good line, isn't it?

I like it too, so of course that's the story I'm having the hardest time writing!

Maybe mentally, you're afraid you can't top that opener? ;)

Would it help to know I'd want to read it with an opening line like that?

Mike --

As your gracious Organizer and fearless leader, I say unto you: "Though shalt finish the downloadable ghost story."

Or there will be severe repercussions...

Hmm

These are wonderful, Michael. I am especially impressed with the first and last ones above, which have the "gotta" factor: I gotta know what happens!

I've read the latter one, but I can't wait to learn more about the downloaded ghost.

I like the "Tomorrow, I will walk into the flames", very much. I have to admit I'm curious as to what comes afterwards.

Oh, and I've posted some of my own tries over at my livejournal.
