mmerriamWictory! I has win at data recovery (mostly), despite the O/S crashing twice during the recovery process.
There were a few photos that were too damaged to save, and a few others that vanish out-right, but I saved about 90% of them and found about the same percentage in my lost writing work.
I feel so much better.
Right now the data is sitting on my thunb drive and the harddrive of the desktop. Tonight I will burn it all to a CD or three.

Everything is saved!
