Over on my Facebook, I noted that I think Dark Water Blues is both the best and worst thing I have ever written. It is a vexing thing, though not necessarily a bad thing. I've been doing a clean-up pass before I start sending it out to readers, and there are plenty of moment where I read what I've written and go, "Huh, I really do seem to be improving." Sadly, there are still too many moments of, "Oh my god, this is such crap!"

Still, if looked at objectively, I seem to moving in the right direction. The problems with Dark Water Blues are different from the problems I had with Last Car to Annwn Station, which were much different from the problems I had with Old Blood's Fate. For the most part, I find myself not making the same mistakes from novel to novel, which I consider a good thing. It means some of the things I'm learning as a writer are taking root. Maybe I'll learn enough to write something sellable. Eventually.

I have been asked for a partial on Last Car to Annwn Station. I'm trying not to get too excited--it is only a request for a partial, after all--but there is a little extra bounce in my step this morning!

I couldn't seem to get any traction as a writer today. I've been a bit moody, or maybe broody, I'm not sure. The Reverend is sick, which makes her moody and cranky as well, and I have the scars to prove it. I opened up the house to let in some fresh air, but now it seems like we have rain moving in. Maybe I just didn't sleep well last night.

I did manage to go into downtown Hopkins today and run some errands, including stopping at the library. I mailed off some manuscripts. I got in a good walk, despite stupid drivers trying to run me down in the crosswalk (X3 no less). I spent a good part of the day working on job applications and lining up which agents to query on Last Car. I should feel accomplished, but all I feel is...blah.

I'm going to try and get a few words in before [livejournal.com profile] careswen gets home.

ETA: Nope, didn't get to write, had other things that needed my attention. I guess today is just a wash as far as writing goes. Tomorrow with be better, I'm sure.
