Things went about as well at the ophthalmologist's as could be expected. My cataract surgery is scheduled for early January 2010, but I have plenty of other medical hoops still to jump through beforehand. In other news, I've lost my mind and agreed to be awake for the eye surgery. They'll use a topical anesthetic to deaden the eye and drugs to keep me sedated.

I can't stand the Dead Souls cover (I should edit to add that it is a great cover. It accomplishes its goal and attracts attention. It sets the tone well. I just can't look.) It makes me shudder and that is the reason I haven't pushed it more. When I have, it's been with links without the pic.

To think you are going to be awake - you are so brave. Thanks for keeping us posted. Good luck. There has to be a story or 15 there.

See, I thought my totally unmedicated childbirth was pretty badass, but that right there? Is hardcore. Good luck! :D

My mother did it this way. She said she kept waiting for them to start. Suddenly, they announced it was over.

This was at least 15 years ago. The drugs are probably even better now.:)

It sounds safer than they way they did it on my left eye, which was to put me under, block the eye, and do the surgery. I get the impression there's less risk to the eye this way.

Let us know if you could use drivers or hotdish or soup or anything else of note when this is scheduled to happen.

I suspect [livejournal.com profile] careswen might like someone to come and sit with her while I'm in surgery. She was alone last time and there were...issues. I'll let her explain that part.

I'd be glad to be there. I have much experience of hospitals.

They held my husband for hours longer than they said it would take, and nobody would tell me why. Turns out the delay had nothing to do with him, but I was scared to death.

Ackackack. Yes, we could totally dispatch monkeys to sit with you and bring you tea and things and make comforting remarks should that sort of thing happen again.

You're a far braver man than I, sir. A far braver man :)

You are far braver than I, but I hope it goes perfectly in any case. :-)

When my mother had her cataract surgery 2 years ago, the doctor's office broadcast the live procedure on tv's in the waiting room. It's not squiggy at all. No blood or guts or anything. And only takes a minute or so. Or so it seems. And yeah, I don't think she remembered anything at all after.

I hope all goes well, and that it only takes the minutes others have announced rather than those terrifying, silent hours of the last time.
